Random Swedish celebratory food day is for this gorgeous creation

image

It’s called a Semla and it’s beautiful. (fight me @askwhathasthiscometo and @acciocauldroncakes )

((IT IS CALLED FASTELAVNSKAKE but I can’t be mad because you literally celebrate a random cake most of the year, dude))

((OOC: OKEY BUT WHAT’S EASIEST TO PRONOUNCE?? SEMLA OR FASTELAVA
NSKAKE?? True.. We like our food.))

((I think I lost that one))

((So I just asked google how to pronounce and to me it’s quite easy I think… And Fastelavns sounds pretty. BUT. OMG. The meaning. So fastelavn is like carnival? Am I getting that right? We have words for it that are quite similar… depending on the dialect you grew up with it’s one of these words in German:
Fastnacht, Fasnacht, Fasnet, Fasching, Fastabend, Fastelovend, Fasteleer.

We also have special sweets for that time of the year. Fastnachtskrapfen.

They look like this…

or this…

or this. And these are the most famous ones. You get them with many different fillings (pudding, jam, alcohol,…)

…The more you know. But it’s interesing people share a similar tradition. Our Fastnacht will be in the week starting with the 27th February.))

((German and Norwegian have a pretty similar pronunciation so HA LIV, we’re not the only one!
And yeah, it’s like carnival and we usually fill them with cream!))

((OOC: Okey Okey Okey people real talk. We call them Fastlagsbulle too. Semla is just a cute nickname. Also my boss informed me that I got the day wrong and Semledagen is actually on the 28th not today so there’s that. BUT THEY SHOULD STILL LOOK LIKE THIS!))
